Production for the TPRC Curb-side Recycling Programme & DISPOSABLE Short Film

A highly successful trial curbside recycling programme carried out in T&T, captured by IAMovement on film to support exploration and scaling up of similar initiatives in the future.

Between 2017 to 2018, IAMovement undertook to work alongside SWMCOL and the Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) to capture the outcomes of a trial curb-side recycling programme which had been carried out with great success. Public participation and support was great where communities’ friends and family used to drop off their recycling to be collected by the planned curb-side pick-ups in neighborhood locations that were not their own. Recognizing this, IAMovement partnered with SWMCOL to capture evidence of this interest and success from the mouths of those involved.

When shared online by SWMCOL, the short video garnered 300,000 views in several weeks without any paid boosting, as well as receiving 3,000 likes and about 300 comments. This high level of interaction and positive feedback suggested that the population of Trinidad & Tobago was in fact very interested in improved management of waste, and interested in participating in recycling through programmes which make this easy to do, such as through designated curb-side pick-up for recyclable wastes.

After the great success of this short video when shared with the public via social media, and since other valuable footage and content was also captured by IAMovement during the filming process, the decision was made to produce a longer and more artistic version of the curb-side recycling programme – with a stronger focus on the impacts of waste on our natural environment. This short film was 10 minutes long and is called DISPOSABLE, and was shot, edited and directed by Dylan Quesnel.
