IAMovement x Massy Group NDOC 2026

IAMovement and Massy Group marked a significant milestone in corporate environmental responsibility for National Day of Caring 2026.

Building on IAMovement’s ongoing reforestation partnership with Close the Loop Caribbean Ltd at the National Quarries Company Limited (NQCL) Sand and Gravel site, this collaboration channeled the collective energy of 350 Massy Group employees into a structured, science-backed restoration effort, demonstrating how strategic private sector engagement can deliver meaningful, measurable impact on Trinidad and Tobago’s natural landscape. By integrating proven nature-based solutions with long-term stewardship commitments, the initiative has set a powerful standard for corporate-led ecological restoration in Trinidad and Tobago.

The National Day of Caring 2026, held on Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, focused on large-scale reforestation of the NQCL Sand and Gravel site in Sangre Grande. The event engaged 350 Massy Group employees, organised into groups of ten, with each group actively involved in digging holes, adding soil amendments, and planting trees spanning fruiting, hardwood, and endemic agroforestry species, making it a fully hands-on experience from start to finish. Each group also installed five Vetiver grass slips around each of their trees, a Nature-based Solution proven to support healthy tree establishment through soil stabilisation, moisture retention, and erosion reduction; a method backed by UWI-supported studies and assessments carried out at the quarry in partnership with IAMovement and the IDB Lab. In total, 350 trees were planted and 1,750 Vetiver slips installed across the site, alongside the diversion of 1,000 single-use plastic packaging items and 403 single-use plastic bottles from the landfill, and an estimated 17.51kg of CO2 emissions avoided.

The initiative built directly on IAMovement’s ongoing reforestation partnership with Close the Loop Caribbean Ltd, a regenerative social enterprise focused on organic waste capture and upcycling for the production of nutrient-rich compost soil, land regeneration, and reforestation activities. Close the Loop Caribbean’s composting and greening services have been central to building and maintaining the soil conditions at the NQCL site that allow newly planted trees to take root and thrive, building upon early efforts implemented by IAMovement under the EMA-led IWEco-TT project at the National Quarries Sangre Grande site. The operational support of the National Quarries Company Limited was equally instrumental in making the initiative possible, providing the foundation for a collaboration that spans across sectors and scales.

All 350 trees will be maintained over a 3+ year establishment period, with guaranteed replacement of any non-surviving trees; a key aspect of the Close the Loop Caribbean reforestation model that ensures every tree planted reaches maturity. A commemorative plaque will also be installed at the site, permanently recognising the contributions of the Massy Group and its volunteer employees toward land regeneration and reforestation in Trinidad and Tobago.

Building on these efforts, the partnership between IAMovement and the Massy Group reflects a shared belief that meaningful climate solutions require collaboration across all sectors of society. This initiative has created a replicable model for corporate-led ecological restoration; one that integrates nature-based solutions, strategic partnerships, and long-term stewardship to deliver sustained environmental benefits across Trinidad and Tobago. IAMovement looks forward to working alongside the Massy Group to expand the reach and impact of the country’s reforestation efforts, continuing to demonstrate that when organisations come together with purpose, the results are felt not just today, but for generations to come.
