VEEP Community Project

A Vetiver Education and Empowerment Project (VEEP) is often conducted over several months to 1-year in communities bringing key knowledge and capacity building on the uses and applications of vetiver grass for land stabilization, erosion control, soil and water conservation and regeneration, sustainable farming practices, and sustainable handicraft making.

Longer VEEPs are also possible with a deeper focus on long-term expansion of vetiver knowledge in communities and sustainable livelihood opportunities through local green businesses. Organizations can participate and support through an ‘Adopt a Community’ approach utilizing the VEEP model.

Cost – Variable and tailored to communities with considerations for location, number of participants, number of vetiver restoration sites and plants installed, length of time, etc (Typ. cost from TT TTD$200,000 to TTD$300,000 involving 20 participants and 5,000 vetiver plants installed, and one (1) vetiver handicraft workshop training series completed).

Organizations can participate and support through an ‘Adopt a Community’ approach with focus on the Vetiver handicraft training programme model.

Cost – Variable and tailored to communities with considerations for location, number of participants, number of vetiver restoration sites and plants installed, length of time, etc (Typ. cost from TT TTD$50,000 to TTD$75,000 involving 10-15 participants and support for their development and integration into sustainable livelihood opportunities through House of Vetiver)

Community Reforestation Projects with Stakeholder Involvement

In partnership with Close The Loop Caribbean, IAMovement offers a range of community reforestation packages which ensure and guarantee that every sapling planted grows into a mature carbon-sequestering tree, some providing more fruit, flowers or hardwood – depending which species we choose.

Reforestation packages involve (i) topsoil regeneration and land preparation activities, (ii) tree supply and planting, and (iii) maintenance during establishment for 3-5 years to ensure that trees grow sufficiently to ensure long-term success. Partners can track their reforested areas digitally (coming soon) and can also participate in site visits, or special stakeholder-participant planting or maintenance days for the establishment of trees, as tailored to each partner package depending on needs and goals.

Cost – Variable and dependent on # of trees or land area involved in package, and levels of involvement requested by partner for stakeholder-employee participation (Standard community reforestation packages range from TTD$10,000 for 50 trees, to $1,000,000 for 5,000 trees over 8-15 acres of land; digital tracking and site visits included; with additional special day-event costs if/as needed based on stakeholder-employee participation numbers).
