Caribbean Green Infrastructure Conference (CGIC) 2025

A dynamic conference showcasing the potential of green bonds and carbon credits to drive sustainable development in the Caribbean. CGIC 2025 blended discussions on green financing mechanisms with real-world green infrastructure projects, creating collaboration among regional and international stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.

The 2nd Caribbean Green Infrastructure Conference (CGIC 2025), which took place under the theme Green Bonds and Carbon Credits, has left an ineffaceable mark on the path forward. In full partnership with The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited, this conference is an initiative of IAMovement and follows the successful inaugural conference in 2022, which has since been further developed as a common space to help support the paradigm shift towards Green Infrastructure across the region. Held on January 23rd and 24th, 2025 at the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business in Trinidad and Tobago, this hybrid event brought together over 450 in-person and virtual participants from across the world, including key stakeholders, policymakers, climate finance experts, and environmentalists.

Objectives

The CGIC 2025 conference objectives included:

  • Improved understanding of green bond principles, and local and regional opportunities
  • Discussion around challenges and benchmarks in local and international green finance access
  • Promotion of green bonds as effective and feasible green finance mechanisms
  • Exploration of local, regional, and international carbon-offset opportunities and methods for project carbon credit development
  • Connection to organizations in need of carbon offsets with relevant providers
  • Encouragement of green-blue thinking in national policy through networking and information sharing

CGIC 2025 served as a dynamic platform for regional and international stakeholders to explore the potential of green bonds and carbon credits, alongside other relevant green financing opportunities, to drive sustainable development across the Caribbean. This conference showcased innovative new green financing approaches, while also highlighting successful green infrastructure projects which can be replicated and scaled, to foster collaboration and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future in the Caribbean.

The first site visit was at an active IAMovement and Close the Loop Caribbean Limited reforestation site with National Quarries, Valencia which was preceded by a Green Infrastructure site visit at Trincity which showcased a riverbank stabilization installation of Vetiver grass through the Vetiver System (VS).

The second site visit took place at the current composting site at Thompsons Soil & Gardening Materials, which is a consortium member of Close The Loop Caribbean where participants were able to see firsthand the process of turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. After which participants were taken to the Vetiver System (VS) site in Trincity. On both days, attendees also had the opportunity to connect with relevant local partners and CGIC 2025 event sponsors through engaging and interactive booth displays.

As climate-related challenges escalate, the Caribbean Green Infrastructure Conference continues to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for action. With the enthusiastic support of regional governments, private sector leaders, and community stakeholders, the conference reaffirmed its commitment to developing a durable, low-carbon future for the Caribbean and beyond. By bridging the gap between environmental innovation and financial tools, CGIC 2025 showcased how mechanisms like green bonds and carbon credits can transform national policies and investment portfolios. As we move forward, the Caribbean Green Infrastructure Conference will continue to lead the way, advancing actionable solutions to embed green infrastructure at the heart of sustainable development.
